On the 21 November Sunday morning, a piece of sad news came from social media that the famous classical Punjabi singer Gurmeet Bawa has no more. The tragic news shocked everyone and many are also grief. Moreover, thousands of tributes to the legend and many big music folk industry celebrities and singers express their condolence and prayers for the singer.

Gurmeet Kaur Bawa was born on 18 February 1944 in Kothe, Punjab, at the time of British India. Her father was S. Uttam Singh and her mother was Ram Kaur, and as of 2021, she was 77 years old. She was an Indian Punjabi language folk singer. Besides, Gurmeet Bawa was known for her long hek (English: breathless opening of a Punjabi folk song calling “ho”) that she could hold for about 45 seconds.
Bawa was one of the singers known for singing Jugni after the (late) Alam Lohar and was the first Punjabi female singer to sing on Doordarshan. She became the first girl in the area to be a teacher, at her time.
